Climbing real estate prices, rent increases, overcrowded living conditions and unrelenting natural disasters are all contributing to the housing crisis in our communities. Even before COVID-19, more than 17 million U.S. households (one in seven) were spending 50 percent or more of their income on housing, forgoing personal and economic stability that safe, decent and affordable housing provides.
But we know a home is more than walls and a roof. Home provides stability and independence. It positively affects mental and physical wellbeing and helps ensure future success across so many facets of a person’s life.
Homeownership matters, and not having access to this takes a toll on the health and wellness of families. Cost-burdened households with children spend on average $190 less on food and 70 percent less on healthcare compared to families living in affordable homes.
By helping provide affordable housing and safe homes for families in need, Cornerstone Building Brand’s Home for Good project is making a real difference for families in communities across North America.
